MBB drop home opener to PS Shenango

It was a double whammy for the Penn State Fayette men's basketball team Tuesday as the team dropped a 71-48 decision to Penn State Shenango.

The game was Fayette's home opener and it also served as its Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) opener.

"I think we just got outworked from start to finish," said Fayette coach Marcus Thomas. "I don't think the mental focus, effort or energy was there tonight for whatever reason.  It is something that we have to bring every time we step on the floor."

The lone Fayette (1-4, 0-1) lead was at 4-2 and Shenango led 32-22 at the half.

The 10-point difference was the closest the game would be in the second half.

Fayette struggled offensively as it only shot 28.8% (15-52) for the game and 20% (3-15) from three-point territory.

Dom Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS) was the lone Fayette player in double figures with 13 points.

Junior Saluca (Suva, Fiji/Laurel Highlands HS) finished with a game-high 15 rebounds and Tavian Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) finished with a team-high three steals.

Tyler James led Shenango with 17 points while Tyrone Steals added 13.

Thomas said the team will have to put the game behind them and move forward.

"It was disappointing," he reiterated of the effort.  "We all have to be better, myself included.  We will continue to work on improving every day and keep grinding through the process of getting better."

Fayette returns to the court Friday when it hosts Penn State Wilkes-Barre in a conference game.

Tipoff is at 8:00 PM.
