Fayette Battles Florida National in USCAA Tournament Opener
Penn State Fayette opened play at the USCAA Softball World Series on May 11, falling to Florida National, 15-1, in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
Florida National struck quickly in the opening inning with a three-run inside-the-park home run from Alisha Lanyon to take an early lead. The Conquistadors added to their advantage in the third inning, erupting for 11 runs on a series of timely extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning.
Despite the deficit, the Roaring Lions continued to compete and broke through in the fifth inning to avoid the shutout. Kaylee Doppelheuer reached base and eventually came around to score after Haylee Speicher delivered an RBI single up the middle. Speicher accounted for both of Fayette's hits in the contest and drove in the team's lone run.
